RUSHWICK lead Worcestershire League Division Three by one point from Lye after edging a two-wicket win at Avoncroft.

Adam Went took 3-25 and Clive Jones 3-22 as Avoncroft were dismissed for 173 in 42 overs.

But Josh Cound (3-44) was among the bowlers to make life uncomfortable for Rushwick in reply.

Niwantha Indima scored 39 and Lewis Hooper 27 before Chris Davies (15 not out) and number 10 batsman Jones (12no) saw them home on 177-8 from 47 overs.

Rushwick's 20-point haul held off Lye who kept up the pressure in second spot as they amassed 384-7 to beat Five Ways Old Edwardians by 214 runs at home.

Fourth-placed Martley continued their fine form with an eight-wicket win at fellow high-fliers Alvechurch and Hopwood.

The hosts won the toss and started steadily with the bat before Mark Johnson split the openers.

Johnson took 3-28 in 10 overs as Church struggled to 95-4 off 23 overs.

But Keith Rostill landed hefty blows to take his side to 149-4 in the 30th over.

Rostill (82) fell to Jamie Howes before James Ganderton set about the lower order with 5-48 from 10 overs.

Only a late flurry from Dan Wolstencroft (38) saw Church to 240 all out as the last wicket pair put on 34.

Martley openers Dom Jones and Ganderton (17) had 42 on the board from eight overs before the latter was caught behind

Rich Birchley went for eight as Martley reached 94-2 off 17 overs and with a threat of rain they were in a hurry.

Jones and Alex Basford smashed it round the park along with 35 wides.

The pair put on 148 to breeze to the 240 target in just 31.5 overs.

Basford’s 90no was chanceless while Jones’ straight hitting took him to 81no.

Eastnor all-rounder Josh Emery's 130 helped his team beat Bromsgrove thirds by two wickets despite Mark Bilbrough countering with 96.

A half-century from Rory Mathews (50) helped Hanley Castle and Upton secure their first victory of the season by two wickets against bottom-of-the-table rivals Malvern who were bowled out for 154 despite Tom Hale's 58.
