A CAMPAIGN group has hit out at a local showground for allowing campervans to park in a treasured woodland.

Save Langdale Wood has accused the Three Counties Agricultural Society of hypocrisy by allowing campervans and caravans to park in the woodland.

Sharon Taylor, founder of Save Langdale Wood, said the showground promised to look after wildlife in the woodland as part of its successful application to build 40 holiday lodges at the site.

The site, on Blackmore Park Road, near Malvern, could host up to 150 campervans for the three-day Bus Fest event, which takes place from September 7 to September 9.

Ms Taylor said: “The campaign is once again shocked at the actions of the Three Counties Showground.

“They presented a glossy development plan with an assurance of the care of the wildlife in the remaining woodland. Now they have got permission it’s a very different story.

“Three Counties has permitted Bus Fest to park 150 campervans in the wood.

“Along with this they are planning an off road course which will be reached through the wood along through the pond habitat of Great Crested Newts protected by Natural England.

“What hypocrisy! Local people are shut out, but 300 people with polluting vehicles are allowed to drive all over it for the right price?”

The Bus Fest website says it is reopening the Langdale Wood camping area.

It states: "This area has plenty of space and would be very popular with dog lovers!"

The Three Counties Agricultural Society was unavailable for comment.
