A BRAWL broke out in Malvern town centre this weekend.

A bar owner has blamed the fight on the extension of pub opening hours for the royal wedding.

The youths involved in the brawl were filmed trading punches in the middle of Grange Road, in Malvern, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

During the clip, which was shared on Facebook, one of the males can be heard shouting: "You're lucky we ain't got knives boyo."

Jonathan Roe, aged 51, the owner of Priors Croft bar, in Grange Road, insists that the brawlers were not his customers.

He said: "Every year a whole new breed of young gentlemen arrive who are not suitable for late-night drinking.

"A lot of this is to do with the late-night licensing for the royal wedding.

"I don't want to do the royal wedding down, it's just weird how something like this should occur on the day when pubs are licensed to 1am.

"It causes havoc when all the other pubs are licensed late."

He added that he has identified five of those involved and banned them from his bar as a precautionary measure.

Former Home Secretary Amber Rudd decided to extend pub opening hours from 11pm to 1am on Saturday night - in honour of the royal wedding.

Kirsty Jennings, aged 26, of Church Street, Malvern, said the fight terrified her six-year-old son, Zak, who has autism.

She said: "It woke him up. The multiple loud noises must have been very frightening for him.

"He is very funny with loud noises. He gets funny with the bathroom fan coming on.

"He started screaming when they [the youths] drove off. My son shouldn't have to feel scared in his own home."

Ms Jennings, a self-employed writer, was watching a movie with her partner, Rick, when she heard screaming outside.

She then went to the window and saw the brawl break out.

The mother-of-one thinks that the males involved were aged between 18 and 20.

She added that disturbances in the town centre are fairly common and she filmed another fight outside her home, involving two women, earlier this year.

Ms Jennings has been offered a two-way radio by Mr Roe, so she can report any further incidents to his team.

In the video of Sunday's brawl, a man can be heard shouting that he has called the police.

Four of the youngsters later leave the scene in a car, while another three youths walk away towards Church Street.

PS Simon Hallam, of Malvern Police Station, said: "This type of behaviour is wholly unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

"I would like to reassure local residents that officers will be completing enquiries into this matter and taking positive action against those identified.

"I would urge anybody with information relating to this incident to contact West Mercia Police."

Witnesses can ring 101 quoting incident number 737s of May 20.
