A VISUALLY-impaired woman from Colwall will be taking part in the Big Blind Walk, a national fundraising event, next month.

Dee Jones, who was diagnosed with rod and cone dystrophy 14 years ago, will he walking twenty miles along the Severn Way on Sunday, May 13, accompanied by members of the local Rotary Club.

The Big Blind Walk has been organised by fund-raiser Julian Jackson, who is walking from Lands End to John O’Groats, raising money for eye research.

Julian and his team are being joined en route by local supporters, and when Dee heard him on the radio she immediately got in touch.

Chris Mill, president of Colwall Rotary said: "A chance conversation with a fellow Rotarian brought Dee’s venture to our attention – as a Rotary Club active in Colwall we are delighted to help.

"With our members supporting the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford, it was super to hear that Dee was a former student at this world-class college.

"So to support Dee, who is so keen to help others making improvements through research, was not a difficult decision. We will be creating a team of volunteers from our Rotary Club to assist as guides and providing a relay for transport along the route.”

The walk starts outside Tewkesbury Abbey at 9am and is set to finish at around 5pm at Holt Fleet, north of Worcester.
