A PUBLIC footpath linking Worcester Road and the nearby retail has been refurbished by Worcestershire County Council.

Work on the path - which runs through a patch of woodlands - has been funded from Section 106 money, which is paid to local authorities by developers to pay for infrastructure developments.

County councillor Paul Tuthill said: "I am very pleased with the work that has been done including extending the path round to the lights at the crossing by Townsend Way.

"Phil Goddard of the county council and Rural Routes played a key role in getting this sorted. He has also done very good work on other footpaths in the Link area, such as behind the convent."

"The cooperation we had from the Hills Trust on this recent project was very helpful in getting a surface along the path and round to the pedestrian crossing

"As part of the work we have provided connections so that appropriate low-level lighting can be installed; the county council engineers are working on this.

"When using the path in December, I became only too aware of how dark it could be, least because of the overhanging branches."

"It would now be good if the few residents who litter this and other paths, think of others and dispose of litter responsibly."

Among the users of the footpath are residents of the nearby Clarence Park retirement complex, who can use it to visit the retail park.
