PUPILS from junior schools around Malvern and beyond had their talents showcased at the weekend.

Malvern St James School was the venue for the annual Junior Schools’ Art Exhibition, which featured over 100 pieces of art.

Among the schools featured were Malvern St James itself, Suckley School, Colwall Primary, Bosbury Primary, the Elms and Abberley Hall School, as well as schools from Birmingham, Cheltenham, Stratford Cirencester.

The works were created using a range of media on a wide breadth of subjects, from Elmer the Elephant and Canopic jars to owls, the Titanic and self-portraits.

Algy Orchard, from Abberley Hall School, was awarded the best in exhibition prize for his piece entitled Hockney Perspective, inspired by the work of David Hockney.

This year’s judge was renowned local artist, Antony Bridge, currently artist in residence at the National Trust’s Croome Court.

He said: “I was honoured to be asked to judge the exhibition. The work from all the schools involved was both stunning and inspiring. I also savoured a guided tour of the Malvern St James Art studios, a great asset for the school with that real art studio look.”

Ms Di Weissberg, head of art and design at the school, said: “The standard and breadth of art in the exhibition was fabulous and it was wonderful to see so many visitors enjoying the children’s creations.”
