THE A449 at British Camp Malvern has reopened in the last few minutes after being closed due to yesterday's coach fire.

A coach carrying 21 students was gutted by fire. The students escaped unharmed, thanks to the quick thinking of coach driver Martin Harris, who stopped the coach and led the students to safety.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and foam to control the blaze, but could not prevent the coach being largely destroyed.

There was a considerable diesel spill on the road which had to be soaked up before the road is safe to be opened.

This was completed and the A449 reopened at around 8am this morning.
