THE creator of an RAF memorial garden at the Three Counties Showground has launched a fundraising drive to complete the project.

Award-winning garden designer Martyn Wilson will unveil his creation at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival later this year to mark the centenary of the Royal Air Force.

Mr Wilson, from Worcester, served as a senior aircraftsman in the RAF, becoming the third generation of his family to have belonged to the service.

He is now only £5,000 shy of his fundraising target for the garden, which will become a permanent part of the showground, in tribute to those from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire who served in the RAF.

The garden has now been nominated an official RAF100 Appeal project, supported by the RAF and four major RAF charities - the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, the Royal Air Forces Association, the Royal Air Force Charitable Trust and the Royal Air Force Museum.

Mr Wilson said: “As you can imagine, I am so proud and honoured for the garden to be part of this appeal, and we will work with them and volunteers at the show to raise funds and awareness of their work with veterans, servicemen and women and their families.”

To raise the last £5,000 he has set up justgiving.com/crowdfunding/raf100-centenary-garden-malvern.
