GYPSIES and Travellers will not be provided with pitches at Kempsey south of Worcester.

But travelling show people may well be, and there could still be another seven new sites for Travellers and show folk across south Worcestershire.

Three local councils, Worcester City, Malvern Hills District and Wychavon District have to approve plans to allocate more sites for Travellers in the South Worcestershire Development Plan.

Originally, 10 possible sites were put forward, with eight needed in the next five years: three are clustered near Evesham, one just south of Stourport at Crossway Green and four are south of Worcester at Bastonford, Kempsey, Guarlford and Upton-upon-Severn.

Two, to be placed in the western and southern urban extensions of Worcester, are to be found in five years and no real estate is identified.

Councillors on Worcester City |Council’s Place and Economic Development Committee were told at their meeting that the landowner of the site at Main Road in Kempsey had indicated it would not be available for Travellers.

Council officer Maria Dunn said: “We’ve just been told by the landowner that the site will not now be available. We haven’t had that in writing yet, we’ve only just been informed.”

It is believed at the Guildhall that the owner will make six pitches available for use by travelling show folk,

The committee unanimously approved the sites. Councillor Simon Geraghty said: “These sites don’t really affect Worcester at the moment.”

The remaining proposed sites are three pitches in Welland Road, Upton upon Severn, five at Knowle Hill, Evesham, 10 new pitches and five transit pitches at Shorthill Caravan park in Crossway Green, two pitches at Mountain View Bastonford, two at Willows End Guarlford and two at Village Street Aldington and six at Bretforton Road Badsey.

The plans come up at Malvern Hills District Councilon Wednesday January 31 and Wychavon District Council on February 21
