GREAT Malvern Priory will be getting a new vicar later this year.

Rev Roderick Corke will be taking up the post in June or July, stepping into the vacancy left when Rev John Barr moved on.

Mr Corke is currently vicar of St Mary Magdalene and St John the Evangelist in Taunton, Somerset. He is married to Rita, a relationship counsellor, and they have three children and four grandchildren. They are also proud owners of Jack, a springador.

He said: "I am so pleased to be coming to Great Malvern Priory as vicar. Rita and I are looking forward to working with the congregation and community to share the love of Jesus and to make His love more widely known.”

Mrs and Mrs Corke were both teaching when he felt a calling to ordination. After training at St John’s College, Nottingham, Mr Corke was ordained in 1992.

He served as curate in Felixstowe and became team rector of the Orwell Team Ministry, before moving on to Taunton.
