WORCESTERSHIRE County Council is set to invest almost £200,000 in new technology at a residential care home in Malvern to assist residents and staff.

A total of £199,000 will be spent on New Technologies in Care over a six-year period at Howbury House at Pickersleigh Grove.

Howbury House, built in the 1980s, is owned and run by the county council. It includes 32 units and provides a service for people with dementia, physical disabilities and adults over 65 years of age.

The new technology will support people with their mobility, personal health and wellbeing, behaviour and social independence.

The cabinet member for adult social care, Cllr Adrian Hardman, said: "In Worcestershire we are leading the way when it comes to new technology in care and this investment of £199,000 is great news.

"Howbury House will be a pioneer in this field and other residential homes will be able to visit to see how the technology could support them."

The county council supports some of the most vulnerable people in society and aims to ensure Worcestershire residents are healthier, live longer and have a better quality of life.

The technology available at Howbury will also support staff by reducing or removing administrative tasks, such as updating support plans, with an integrated technology-based approach.

Howbury will be using wireless technology and the internet of things to link devices such as bed sensors, door sensors, innovative lighting and movement sensors. The technology will be specifically tailored to individual residents' needs.

The new technology will be installed during 2018.
