MORE than 115 miles of roads have been improved as part of a county council campaign.

Worcestershire County Council's Driving Home programme includes preparing and resurfacing roads and the council says it has directly benefitted more than 12,000 homes and 27,000 residents in all six districts of Worcestershire.

The £12million scheme, which launched in April 2016, hopes to have improved 150 miles of roads by April 2018.

Councillor Alan Amos, cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said: "Residents have told us which roads matter to them the most and we've listened.

"We've carried out improvements on over 115 miles of roads which is making a massive difference to people all across the county.

"Worcestershire has some of the best roads in the country and Driving Home is making them even better."

An extra £6 million is being invested into improving Worcestershire's pavements.

The additional money will more than double the original investment into pavements, meaning more than 50 extra miles of footpaths can be improved.

The county council says it is on track to improve over 70 stretches of pavements across the county by April 2018.

The Driving Home team has collected data about the condition of the roads and spoke to local residents to ensure the roads that need improving and those which are most important to residents, are included in the programme.
