ENGLISH Touring Opera is performing a new concert production of Handel’s masterpiece, Giulio Cesare, at Great Malvern Priory.

The performance will be the company's only presentation of the opera, which tells the story of Roman general Julius Caesar, in the Midlands.

The current production has amassed a wide array of reviews praising the production as ‘immaculate and thrilling’ and ‘wonderfully sung’.

This special concert performance will be narrated between scenes by the ETO's General Director James Conway, who is also director of the production.

The Olivier-award-winning company is among the leading producers of Handel operas in the UK, having produced fifteen Handel operas in the past fifteen years.

The company’s focus on Handel has played a big part in re-establishing the composer’s prominence in the operatic repertoire.

Giulio Cesare follows the story of Caesar and his uneasy romance with Cleopatra.

We see the aftermath of the execution of Caesar’s rival, Pompey, as Caesar, Cleopatra and her brother, Tolomeo, all fight for the throne. Caesar and Cleopatra are at their lowest ebb: will they regain the upper hand over Tolomeo? Can their relationship survive the oncoming war?

Giulio Cesare is being performed on Friday, November 24, at 7.30pm, and tickets are available via whatson.englishtouringopera.org.uk.
