MOVIE FANS will have the chance to watch a science-fiction blockbuster, a hit musical and a ground-breaking Disney classic under the stars as part of Malvern’s outdoor cinema season.

The Lion King, Mamma Mia and Star Wars: A New Hope are all being screened in Priory Park as part of the programme put on by Malvern Hills District Council.

Fans will be able to watch Simba fight for his rightful place, sing along with Meryl Streep and see Luke Skywalker battle it out against Darth Vader on a giant outdoor screen.

All three films have been chosen for their significance in cinema history or because they are nearing a landmark anniversary.

The Lion King is being shown on Sunday, September 3, and was the first Disney animated feature to be based on an original story.

Mamma Mia! turns ten next year and a sequel is scheduled for release next July, making it the perfect time to rediscover why it was the highest grossing film in the UK on its release. It is being screened on Sunday, September 17.

Star Wars: A New Hope is 40 years old this year and sparked a franchise which is still going strong today. Fans can catch up on where it all started on Sunday, October 1.

Council leader David Chambers, said: “Our outdoor cinema season has proved popular in previous years and this latest line-up of blockbuster films is our best yet. So grab yourself a chair and a blanket and come and enjoy some classic cinema in the beautiful surroundings of Priory Park.”

Tickets cost £10 or £7.50 concessions. Gates open at 7.30pm with screenings starting at 8pm. Film-goers are advised to bring their own chairs and blankets; refreshments will be available on the night.
