A FORMER Chase student has just been recognised as one of the UK's top young designers.

Jake Paisley, who studied at the Malvern school from 2005 to 2013, is one of just five new talents recognised in the Design Council's New Designers initiative.

The honour is in recognition of Mr Paisley's final-year project at De Montfort University, a dementia home support system.

The system is designed to relieve one of the issues that comes with dementia: short-term memory loss.

The hub boasts features such as item location for finding keys and other important objects around the home. It can also be connected to the cooker, detecting when it is in use and alerting the user at regular intervals if it appliance has not been switched off. If the user does not respond, a text alert is sent to a next-of-kin.

Following this project, Mr Paisley has just been awarded a first-class honours degree and is now looking at a number of job offers.

Sarah Weir, chief executive of the Design Council, said: “This is a fantastic idea that aims to improve the everyday lives of people with early-stage dementia. A true peace-of-mind product designed and developed in partnership with people with dementia.”
