A PIRATE ball proved a treasure chest for Worcester's breast unit, raising more than £1,200.

The Pink or Pirates Ball held by the Malvern Hills Round Table has raised £1,274.78 for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven.

The ball was held at the Bank House Hotel, Bransford near Worcester at the end of April.

A live pirate band called Whipjacks entertained guests after dinner and a charity auction raised the funds for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven.

Tim Wright, chairman of Malvern Hills Round Table, who helped organise the ball said: “The night was spectacular: the theme was so much fun! "We are delighted to have raised this sum for the amazing work of the Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven here in our county."

Lexi Craigie, fundraising manager at Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven said: “The support of groups such as Malvern Hills Round Table is crucial to the work we do.

"Everybody knows somebody who has been touched by breast cancer, and local fundraising efforts combine to allow the work of the unit to continue.

"Breast cancer is the biggest cause of death for women between 35 and 55, and 600 people each year in Worcestershire are diagnosed with breast cancer. Huge thanks to Malvern Hills Round Table for this sum.”
