A TEENAGE dancer who suffers from dyspraxia might have to turn down a place at her dream school due to the high fees.

Sophy Sherwood has been offered a spot at Italia Conti Academy of Performing Arts, in London, but can only take up the position if she gets financial support.

The 19-year-old, of Hawkwood Close, Malvern, began her dancing journey at Cecilia Hall Dance Centre, in Church Street, Malvern, when she was just four years old.

She has won a place at the prestigious school despite having dyspraxia, which affects her body coordination and movement.

The teenager will have to pay the first year's tuition by the end of August, which has led her mother to appeal for help.

Her mum, Sue, said: “We’ve taken a real chance, Sophy has accepted the place as the deadline was looming.

"I'm so proud of Sophy, she's worked hard and met any challenges that have come her way with determination and enthusiasm.

"Gaining a place at Italia Conti has been her dream for many years and I know she will make the most of this wonderful opportunity if given the chance.

“I have always tried to support Sophy’s performance dream but unfortunately the £25,000 we need to fund fees, living expenses and learning support for Sophy’s dyslexia and dyspraxia is beyond my means.

“I’m a single mum and I’ve brought up Sophy and her brother, Liam, on my own."

Ms Sherwood said that she has sometimes worked two jobs to help fund Sophy’s dance lessons.

They have raised a few thousand pounds from family and friends but still need help.
