A NEW defibrillator has been installed at the One Stop shop in Poolbrook Road, Malvern, thanks to the effort of community volunteer Martin Lawrence.

Mr Lawrence has been campaigning to have one of the lifesaving machines installed in the Chase ward since he was a member of Malvern Town Council.

More recently, as the organiser of the Zest4Life social events at the nearby Octagon Community Centre, he approached the One Stop management in search of sponsorship.

The business agreed to cover the entire £1,400 cost of the machine via its Carriers for Causes community programme, funded by the 5p plastic bag charge.

The company also agreed to allow the defibrillator to be installed at the shop, a central location in the Chase ward. The machine itself was provided by HeartStart Malvern.

Mr Lawrence said: "One Stop, Carriers for Causes and Heartstart Malvern have been truly amazing. Zest4Life regulars will now have a lot to talk about on Wednesdays. We can even laugh at the hurdles we faced and the heart-lifting commitment to success of those that made this possible."
