ONE of Britain's top musicians is coming to Welland to help raise money for a road safety campaign.

Violinist Ric Sanders has been a member of folk-rock legends Fairport Convention since 1984, and has also played with the Albion Band, Soft Machine and Jethro Tull. He is widely regarded as one of Britain’s best jazz, folk, and rock fiddle players.

Le will be joined for the gig on Friday, June 16, by locally-base guitarist Vo Fletcher, who has has played with the Ric Sanders Trio, Nigel Kennedy, Fairport Convention, and John Mayall.

The gig has been put on by Welland Parish Council to help pay for a vehicle-activated speed sign for the village.

Viv Nelson of the council said: "Here in the village we have had a number of complaints about speeding traffic and since funding from Worcestershire County Council highways department is not forthcoming, we are having to try and raise the money ourselves for a new traffic calming sign.

"We currently have a fund-raising initiative and part of this is a music social at Welland church starring Vo and Ric. We also have several local warm-up acts and a bar provided by the Three Kings pub.

"I saw Ric and Vo play in Colwall last year and they were electric together on stage, providing a unique jazz/blues set."

Tickets are £10, from viv@nelsontraining.co.uk or 01684 310522, or from the village shop.
