TWO walkers are celebrating the success of their sponsored walk along the length of the Severn Way in aid of Malvern Special Families.

Kerrin Fearns and Briony Mills walked from Worcester to Bristol over the bank holiday weekend to complete the challenge, during which they raised over £700 for the charity. They had previously walked from Plynlimon in Wales to Worcester.

The duo completed the total of 83 miles over three days: Worcester to Gloucester on e Friday, Gloucester to Slimbridge on Saturday and Slimbridge to Severn Beach on Sunday.

Ms Fearns said: “The walking was difficult in places where the Severn Way is not maintained and we had to fight through brambles and nettles.

"Also the weather was very challenging as every day was so hot, which was a real test of our endurance - not what we were expecting in May. We feel a great sense of achievement now we have completed the Severn Way, which has been boosted by the fact we raised over £700.”

Malvern Special Families chairman Helen Attree said: “Congratulations to Kerrin and Briony for completing such a tough challenge in the heatwave and for doing such a brilliant job fundraising and raising awareness about our small charity Malvern Special Families.”

Ms Fearns said: “Malvern Special Families have made a massive difference to my life by providing safe and stimulating play schemes to my daughter over the last 10 years.

"They are a fantastic organisation which is used by many local families and they provide opportunities for children with disabilities to enjoy activities which may not ordinarily be available to them.”

There is still time to sponsor the duo at justgiving.com/fundraising/plynlimontobristol.
