A TEAM of adventurers from two local councils have been preparing for their big challenge of pushing a piano all the way up the Worcestershire Beacon.

The team, from Malvern Hills and Wychavon district councils, with be using the challenge to raise vital funds for Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven, in the name of a colleague battling cancer.

They have been practicing hard, and are now ready to push the %00-lb upright piano from the centre of Malvern all the way to the top of the hills.

And they are hoping that as many people as possible will come out to cheer them on and to donate money to the good cause.

The event will start at 11am at the traffic lights in Church Street with a few tunes on the piano, and at 11.20am the push will start.

At 11.40am, they will assemble on Belle Vue Terrace for the second performance, before departing towards the Wyche at noon.

At 1pm they are scheduled to stop at the Earnslaw car park for the third performance and at 1.45pm for the fourth performance. They are due to arrive at the summit of the Beacon at 3pm.

Chris Lewis-Farley, landscape officer with Malvern Hills, said: “The piano push practice session went really well. The team all pulled, or pushed, together and we are all very excited about the challenge ahead.

“The public’s response to the event has been fantastic with many people already giving to the charity very generously. While the event starts at 11am, I hope people can also come and support us at the various performance stops along the way and at the Worcestershire Beacon when we get there. It really will be a most splendid endeavour.”
