MALVERN Hills Volunteering is celebrating Volunteers’ Week with a display in the town’s tourist information centre, showcasing opportunities to help the community.

Malvern Hills Volunteering has been running for nearly seven years, promoting volunteering across the district.

They match people interested in volunteering with organisations seeking to recruit new volunteers.

Last year they handled over 200 enquiries from interested people and worked with more than 100 local organisations to recruit and place volunteers.

Kay Bromley of the group said: “Volunteers are just amazing, they give up their time, energy and commitment to help others in their community and we want to use national Volunteers’ Week to both thank everyone who currently volunteers in the Malvern area and encourage even more people to join them.

“We have over 200 different volunteering roles on our database, and can help find roles to suit anyone, from just a few hours a month to a day a week. We have roles that are based indoors, others that are outside, roles for people who like to be active and roles for those who prefer to be sedentary.

“We have roles for younger people, retired folk and everyone in between, so we invite anyone to come and talk to us about how we can help them.”

Malvern Hills Volunteering runs weekly drop-in sessions at the library on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9.30am.

Charities across the UK will hold events to thank their volunteers and celebrate the power of volunteering to bring communities together.

Last year more than 900 events took place, from awards ceremonies to tea parties and barbecues.

For many charities the week will also be a chance to showcase the range of volunteering opportunities on offer. Fairs and other events will encourage people to try volunteering for the first time.
