THE first phase of a major retirement development in Malvern has been officially opened by the town's mayor.

Cllr Cynthia Palmer cut the ribbon to marking the opening of Audley Ellerslie, between Wells Road and Priory Road.

The first phase consists of 16 apartments and a cottage offering a selection of one-, two- and three-bedrooms accommodation.

Nick Sanderson, the company's chief executive, said: “We are all very proud to mark this milestone in the completion of the first phase at Ellerslie. The completion event allows us to celebrate the achievements of all those who have worked on the project, from tradesmen to architects.

“We will now be looking ahead to the next few months, when we will have the opportunity to welcome new owners to the village.”

The original Ellerslie buildings, one of which is Grade II* listed, were built in 1855. The completed development will provide 101 properties for the over 60s. The new village is also set to create up to 65 new jobs, from the sales team to restaurant staff and gardeners.
