THREE men have been jailed for a total of more than 12 years after carrying out a burglary.

The trio were sentenced in relation to an incident in Berkley Gardens, in Fernhill Heath, near Worcester.

Troy Gayle, aged 23, of Boyd Grove, Birmingham, was sentenced to four years in prison for theft, burglary, breaching a suspended sentence and perverting the course of justice.

Daniel Sheridan, aged 28, of Wyncliffe Road, Birmingham, was given four years and two months for the burglary and for failing to appear in court.

Michael Nelson, aged 24, of no fixed abode, received four years and six months for the incident and for a previous attempted burglary.

Detective Constable David Foley, from Worcester Criminal Investigation Department, said: "This was a brazen, targeted burglary in the middle of the day.

“But thanks to the swift actions of a neighbour, we were able to arrest the offenders within half an hour.

"I am satisfied with the verdict reached by the jury at the end of the five-day trial and with today's sentences."

A West Mercia Police spokesman said a neighbour heard some noise during the incident and spotted people leaving the house.

They then took the registration number of the vehicle and phoned the police – who traced the car and caught the burglars.

The burglary happened on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, and they originally appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, July 7.

Their trial took place at Worcester Crown Court from Monday, February 27, to Monday, March 6, and they were found guilty.

Sheridan failed to turn up for sentencing on Thursday, April 6, and was arrested by West Midlands Police.

The trio were sentenced by a judge at Hereford Crown Court on Friday, May 12.
