WORCESTERSHIRE'S General Election landscape has been confirmed - with the final candidates in place for June 8.

The deadline has now passed for hopefuls looking to enter parliament, with seven names in the frame for Worcester.

City Tory Tory Robin Walker will defend his 5,646 majority against Labour Councillor Joy Squires and Green Councillor Louis Stephen in a re-run of 2015.

Lib Dem activist Stephen Kearney has also got his candidacy in on time as did UKIP branch secretary Paul Hickling, but there are also two confirmed independents.

Mark Shuker, who stood in 2015, will stand for a movement called 'Compass' while Alex Rugg, who has tried to get elected to Worcester City Council for the Conservatives, is also on the ballot paper as an independent.

Elsewhere there are four confirmed names for Mid-Worcestershire, where Tory Nigel Huddleston holds a 20,532 majority.

Just two years after entering parliament for the first time he will defend it against veteran Lib Dem candidate Margaret Rowley, Labour activist Fred Grindrod and Green Fay Whitfield, a marketing manager.

In West Worcestershire Conservative Harriett Baldwin has a whopping 22,578 majority.

Her rivals include former Lib Dem MEP Edward McMillan-Scott, ex-midwife Samantha Charles for Labour and Natalie McVey for the Greens.

But UKIP has also found a candidate - the party's West Worcestershire branch chairman Mike Savage.

In the end UKIP did not field candidates in Mid-Worcestershire or Redditch, but will contest the other four constituencies in the county.

With the deadline for candidates gone, council chiefs are now urging voters to ensure they are registered in time.

The final date for householders to get themselves on the electoral register is Monday, May 22, with a midnight cut-off point.

Anyone not registered to vote at their current address can register online at www.gov.uk/registertovote.

Tim O’Gara, electoral registration officer at Worcester City Council, said: "The deadline is fast approaching - with less than two weeks to go, we're reminding everyone in Worcester to register to vote."

Emma Hartley, head of campaigns at the Electoral Commission, said: "Our research indicates that recent home movers in particular are less likely to be registered to vote.

"Often people think that applying to pay council tax means you are added to the electoral register too, but that is not the case."
