THE man behind some of the best Sunday roasts in the UK is set to show off his talents at this year’s Great Malvern Food Festival.

Chef Matt Slocombe will be cooking up some tasty treats at the free event on Bank Holiday Monday, May 29, in the grounds of Great Malvern Priory.

Matt runs the Crown Inn at Woolhope, near Ledbury, and his Sunday lunches have been recognised by the Best British Roast Dinner Awards.

Also appearing will be Lizzy Hughes of Malvern-based Our Lizzy Cooking, who will share some healthy ideas using beans and pulses.

There will be the chance for younger visitors to have a go at making their own pizzas with Matthew Lloyd from the Fabulous Cob Oven Company, plus demonstrations from Malvern St James School and award-winning bread maker Peter Cook.

More than 60 stalls will be offering local produce, ranging from home-made fudge and sweet crepes to Caribbean and Mexican food, from 10am to 5.30pm.

Entertainment includes Malvern Rock Choir, jazz band Second Line and Mark Abbott, who will be juggling fruit, onions and eggs while balancing a baguette on his nose.

The weekend also includes the Malvern Munch Food Walk on Sunday, May 28.

The seven-mile walk over and around the Malvern Hills offers walkers the chance to taste great food and drink whilst listening to live music at stops along the way.

Tickets (£25 adults, £15 children including all food and drink) are available from the tourist information centre, Church Street.
