AN artist gave up her spare time to paint a wall in the corridor of a care home.

Sara Bennett volunteered to paint a mural at The Springs Nursing and Residential Home, in Spring Lane, Malvern.

She heard about plans to paint the wall from one of the care home workers, who she knows from her church.

The artist started painting the scene with pastels at the end of March and finished it in the middle of April.

Adam Millis, a manager at the care home, said: “We thought it would bring a bit of the outside in. Sometimes it’s difficult for people in the home to access the garden.

“For the generation we have here, gardening was a big part of their lives and this is part of bringing that inside.

“It was to create a sense of a calming environment.”

The mural depicts a picturesque scene of hills, a picket fence, trees and the ocean.

“The reaction has been really good, residents enjoy spending time there as it’s quite calming,” Mr Millis said.

Staff have put seats next to the artwork and play bird songs to enhance the atmosphere.

The care home is holding an open day on Friday, June 16, in celebration of National Care Home Day.
