RESIDENTS of Hanley Swan will be opening up their gardens to the public over the bank holiday weekend.

The village's open garden event is always popular and drew nearly 1,000 visitors last year.

Carol Hutchings, one of the organisers, said: "17 private gardeners in this beautiful village are getting ready to welcome visitors to their gardens over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

"The gardens range from very large to beautifully-maintained small gardens."

The gardens will be open from noon to 5pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and tickets, at £6 per person, can be used on all three days.

St Gabriel’s Church in the village will be serving cream teas, and light lunches will also be available.

Visitors will also be able to vote for their favourite container garden in the village's Go Potty competition.

There is also a photographic competition with a £25 prize for the winner, whose photo will also be used in next year's promotional material.

Tickets and maps are available from any of the venues, which all have a distinctive sign outside, and also from the Tourist Information Centre in Malvern.
