THE future of a fire-damaged hedge in a Malvern park will be on the agenda when town councillors meet next week.

The 25-metre hedge at Victoria Park, Malvern Link, was badly damaged after it caught fire shortly before 12.30pm on Tuesday, April 11.

The park is owned by Malvern Town Council and next week, the council's policy and resources committee will discuss what to do about it.

Town clerk Linda Blake said: "The leylandii hedge is very badly burned, and the proposal we are making is to to take it all out, and replace its with close-board wooden fencing on the bowls club side, and then plant something like laurel in front of it.

"We hope most of the cost will be paid for by our insurance policy, and we are working in that right now."

Members of the town council's policy and resources committee will be asked to decide on the proposal at its meeting on Tuesday, May 2. at the council office, Belle Vue Terrace, at 6pm.

The fire may have been started deliberately, and police want to speak anyone who saw anything suspicious that day. Information can be called in to 101, quoting incident number 285S of April 11.
