A REGULAR volunteer at Malvern Food Bank has just celebrated his 100th birthday.

The centenary of Frank Chester, who lives in Malvern Wells, fell on one of the days when he was on the rota to help at the foodbank, so other volunteers took the opportunity to recognise this great achievement.

To his surprise, he was presented with a birthday cake with a special 100 candle perched on top. The rest of the team of volunteers then enjoyed cups of tea and several types of celebratory cake to mark the occasion.

Dot Hayes of the foodbank said: "Frank has volunteered at the foodbank for quite some time, taking part in the various tasks there such as sorting and dating donations, stacking shelves and being available for extra help when necessary.

"We are always pleased to see Frank, an equally valuable member of our group regardless of age, which seems not to matter to him in the least."

Mr Chester said: "I don't feel 100 usually, but my body tells me I'm not as young as I used to be. I just do what I can, and when I can't, I sit down."
