TWO-way traffic lights will be in place on the A449 at Link Top, Malvern, from tomorrow (Wednesday) to allow the latest phase of work by water company Severn Trent to be carried out.

Since August last year, Severn Trent has been carrying out a £7 million project to make sure local people have a water supply they can rely on.

The next phase will see the company install the new pipes beneath the Worcester Road at Link Top.

Gareth Mead of Severn Trent said: “This new pipeline is really important and will make sure that local residents and businesses have a water supply that can be relied upon for years to come.”

To allow engineers to work safely, traffic lights will be in place on the A449 Worcester Road between North Malvern Road and Zetland Road. There will be no access between North Malvern Road and the A449 during the work, and a local diversion will be in place.

If everything goes to plan the engineers should be finished by the end of April.

Mr Mead said: “We know there’s never a good time to disrupt traffic but we’ve timed this work to make sure a large amount of it will take place during the school holidays when there are fewer vehicles on the road.

“Our contractors from MMB will work as quickly as possible to get the new pipes installed and return everything to normal. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this causes.”

The aim of the work is to install a new main linking a reservoir at Lower Wyche and one at Cowleigh Road, on the edge of North Malvern.
