FOURTEEN students from the Chase School in Malvern performed in the Great Big Dance Off regional final competition at the Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton after flying through the audition rounds.

Liberty Beale and Becci Metcalfe, current BTEC dance students at the Chase, wowed the judges and were crowned overall regional champions. Their self-choreographed contemporary duet to Glee’s version of Defying Gravity gained high scores for originality, dance skills and overall feel of the performance.

The duo will now progress to the national finals in July. Both dancers, who train at Harlequin Stage School in Worcester, and are also gearing up for their All England finals which will take place in London during the summer.

Molly Nagle, a current sixth form student at the school, choreographed the 11-14 entry made up of seven year 8 and 9 dancers. The entry impressed the judges enough to place them third overall out of over 30 schools, narrowly missing out on a spot in the national final.

Sophie George, teacher of dance at the Chase said: “The students should be so proud of themselves and deserve everything that they have achieved. They worked tirelessly on their dances and thoroughly enjoyed the competition. It was great to see the support that they showed not only to one another but to other competitors on the night. We are so excited to be going to the national finals in July.”
