RESIDENTS say they are fed up with vehicles parking on the pavement while delivering carpets to a storage unit.

Locals claim a lorry and a van often park on the pavement next to the unit, in Ronkswood Hill, Worcester, and block access to the walkway.

Mothers and their children have reportedly been forced to walk in the road due to the vehicles.

The company which operates the lorry has said it was unaware of the issue and will stop it from happening again.

A 33-year-old woman, who lives in Michael Tippett Drive, Worcester, said: “The van and lorry that keeps parking on the path does have an impact on our daily lives.

“It’s usually a lorry that is parked on the pavement every day when it is either dropping off or collecting carpets.

"I don’t actually know who would be at fault if me and my children were on the road due to the vehicles blocking the path, and we got hit by a car?

“Would it be us for being on the road, the driver of the car or the driver of the vehicles that shouldn’t be on the pavement?

“Hopefully there’s something that can be done to prevent an accident from happening.”

Another local resident, aged 69, said: “Sometimes they have carpet rolled out across the pavement and they are cutting it.

“People have to walk in the road to get around. Especially little ones with buggies. The pavement should be clear for pedestrians.”

A spokesman for MCD Kidderminster, which operates the lorry that delivers to the unit, said: "We were totally unaware that this was happening.

"At no point have we been contacted, otherwise this would have been stopped immediately. We will make sure this does not happen again."

Residents say they do not know who owns the unit and polite requests to workers have had no success.

The Worcester News was unable to contact anyone at the storage unit for comment.
