AN exhibition about a famous artist will be held at the same place in which she painted George Bernard Shaw's portrait.

The 'Magic of a Line' exhibition at Elmslie Gallery, in Avenue Road, Malvern, takes place on Saturday, March 25.

Malvern's Mayor Cynthia Palmer will open the event, which will explore the life and work of Dame Laura Knight.

Evie Knight, joint chairman of the Friends of Dame Laura Knight Society, said: "The venue is one of the many places in Malvern where the artist painted.

"The Elmslie Gallery has a special connection as it was in this room in 1932 that she painted the portrait of George Bernard Shaw.

"This will be an opportunity for the public to find out more about Dame Laura Knight’s work and, in particular, her link with Malvern, and for the Friends of Dame Laura Knight Society to demonstrate the range of material they have collected."

Dame Laura Knight lived from 1877 to 1970 and was good friends with the Nobel prize winning author George Bernard Shaw.

The exhibition is free and open to the public from 10am to 4pm.
