ENTREPRENEURS showed off their business ideas on Worcester High Street as part of a Young Enterprise competition.

Pupils from schools and colleges across Worcestershire set up stalls to sell a variety of products from cookbooks to homemade candles to fruit squashes.

The Mayor of Worcester Councillor Paul Denham opened the Worcester Trade Fair at 10am on Saturday.

The pupils had worked together to set up and run a business and decide on a company name and product to sell to the public.

Among the Young Enterprise teams taking part were Danny Cave and Ryan Davies, for Polar, from Tudor Grange Academy Worcester, who were selling cookbooks on their stall.

Danny, aged 17, said: "We are going on to university and thought it would be good to have something to help us when we are catering for guests.

"We've had a lot of interest and sold five cookbooks."

Students from Kings School Worcester were there with a team called Millennium selling aromatherapy products.

The team was later given an award for Best Display.

Jack Kenneally-Perrin, 16, said: "We've done really well.

"We've sold well over £100 today.

"The judges seemed to really like us."

Malvern St James student Imogen Townsend, 16, was representing Illuminate, which was selling fruit cordials and coasters and was given the award for Best Product.

She said: "We wanted to do something local to Herefordshire and Worcestershire so we found a local supplier.

"The peppermint and lime has been quite popular because it's quite good for Mojitos or mixing with Lemonade."

Nasima Khatun, aged 16, was representing Worcester Sixth Form College team Genesis Enterprises with Ed Rose, Amir Iqbal and Freja Dunn.

She said: "We have made candles in recycled glass jars.

"We made the candles ourselves and found the jars on freecycle.

"We've sold nine today.

"The judges looked at our company report and they seemed impressed we'd started it already."

Raw Aspirations from Pershore High School was awarded Best Sales and Marketing while Hidden, a team from Tudor Grange Academy Worcester, won the Best Company Overall.
