FIRE crews have rescued an injured dog from the Malvern Hills.

Firefighters from Malvern carried the distressed dog down from the Worcestershire beacon in their Sprinter van to enable its owner to take it for veterinary treatment.

The dog had injured its leg and was thought to have either glass or thorns embedded in a wound.

A spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue service said: "It was quite distressed and the owner was distressed.

"Crews were already on the hills because the Malvern Conservators were carrying out controlled burning.

"They were in the area checking on that.

"The dog was in considerable distress so two fire crew picked it up and carried it to the Sprinter van and got it down to where the owner had her car."

The dog's condition is not known but it was taken to a vet where investigations were due to be carried out on its injured leg.

The rescue happened just before midday today (Tuesday.)
