A TEACHER has been nominated for the Worcester News Worcestershire Education Awards - after two of her students said she was their favourite teacher.

Georgie Lott, who teaches science at Nunnery Wood High School, was put forward for teacher of the year.

We've teamed up with the University of Worcester to create the new awards which celebrate the hard work quality, passion and dedication we know exist in our nurseries, schools and colleges.

Our awards, which will be presented at a black-tie gala event this summer, will put the spotlight on the best headteachers, teachers and support staff in primary, secondary and post-18 categories.

Other categories include those working with youngsters with special needs, unsung heroes, and a Fit for Life award for those who promote sport.

Nominees don't have to work at schools as anyone who helps young people can be nominated including football coaches, brown owls or scout leaders or youth club leaders.

Pupils Luke Hutchings and Matt Thomas put forward Miss Lott, praising her for being an approachable, engaging teacher.

Luke said: "She has an extensive knowledge of all science and has a lot of charisma.

"She is my favourite teacher this year.

"She has a great way of teaching and makes everyone understand even if they struggle.

"Miss Lott definitely deserves this award for all her hard work and dedication."

Matt said: "She is one of the best chemistry teachers who I have had at Nunnery.

"She has a great way of teaching, mixing actual science and some funny nonsense which helps me and the rest of my class to learn chemistry.

"Her classes think she is the best science teacher in the school."

Nominations close on Friday, April 7 and the awards will be presented in June.

Anyone who has any contact with schools or community groups can nominate, whether that be parents, employers working with schools, governors or even pupils themselves.
