THE latest Malvern Hills Repair Cafe held on Saturday was the busiest ever, say organisers.

The team of volunteers who make up the cafe's key resource repaired a record-breaking 88 items that were brought to the event at the Friends Meeting House in Orchard Road.

And the event's fame has spread beyond the local area, thanks to BBC TV coverage of last month's cafe.

Trevor Bell of the organising team said: "After seeing the BBC report on the repair cafe online, one attendee drove from Birmingham to have his repair done, as he was looking for people he could trust ."

Mr Bell said that the cafe element of the event was also extremely busy, with a couple of times when there were almost as many people standing in the safe area as there were sitting.

One visitor to Saturday's session posted his gratitude on Facebook, saying: “Just like to say a big thank you to John at the cafe. Record player now spinning tunes again. Big thanks."

Mr Bell said: "Our hope has been to spread the word about our work throughout Malvern. We are so very grateful to the Malvern Gazette for reporting our work and helping us try to ensure that all Malvern residents are aware of us and our activities. The Malvern Hills Repair Cafe will try to repair anything, and usually succeed.

"Clearly word is getting around and the latest publicity is paying off, even our Facebook pages are being used so much more with currently around 700 people following us.

"We are also extremely grateful to our volunteers who complete the repairs and provide refreshments in the café as without them we would be totally unable to operate. If any Malvern Gazette reader would be interested in volunteering with us we would be delighted to hear from them on press@malvernhillsrepaircafe.co.uk."

The next repair cafe will be held on Saturday 18th March, between 10am and 1pm at the Friends Meeting House. Further details and contact information can be found at malvernhillsrepaircafe.co.uk or the cafe's Facebook page.
