CELEBRATIONS are in order for staff and students at a primary school which has been rated 'good' by Ofsted.

An inspection of Grove Primary School and Nursery, in Malvern, last November, found the school to be 'good' in every category.

The rating is welcome news for the school, in Pickersleigh Grove, which was previously marked as 'requiring improvement' during its last inspection in 2014.

Headteacher Mark Ridlinton said: "I'm really pleased. It has been quite a journey of sustained improvement through the school.

"As a school we believe we were a good school for some time before the inspection. What the inspection does, it rubber stamps that thought."

The school was judged in categories including: effectiveness of leadership and management, quality of teaching, outcomes for pupils, and personal development, behaviour and welfare.

"The attainment figures and results the school were getting at Year 2 and Year 6 Sats needed to improve - which they have done," said Mr Ridlinton, who has been headteacher for five years.

He continued: "The inspection team praised the behaviour of the children both within school and on the playgrounds.

"They commented on how much the children enjoyed lunchtimes - behaviour was impeccable in the dining hall whilst they also praised all of the equipment available to the children on the playgrounds as well as the lunchtime clubs that they could attend.

"All aspects of the school's safeguarding procedures were found to be robust and effective."

In the report, the inspector said: "Leaders have brought about clear improvements to the quality of teaching.

"They have also raised teachers’ expectations of what pupils can achieve.

"As a result, pupils are now making better rates of progress and attainment has risen."

The report also read: Pupils are confident and happy at school. They talk about how they feel safe and value the work that staff do to make sure they feel this way."
