A MUSICIAN is preparing to perform live on stage as part of a theatre production to be broadcast around the world.

Letty Stott, who grew up in Malvern Wells, plays French horn as part of the the Southbank Sinfonia Alumni for the National Theatre's production of Amadeus.

The show follows the story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as a young man, and - unusually - sees members of the orchestra performing alongside actors on stage.

On Thursday, February 2, the production will be broadcast to cinemas and theatres around the world - including to Ms Stott's home town - as part of National Theatre Live.

And the former Malvern Girls' College student, says her family will be proudly watching from The Forum Theatre, in Malvern.

"It is just the most exciting opportunity for all of us, we have never done anything like this before - it is a bit of a voyage of discovery," said the 31-year-old.

"The orchestra float around the stage like a Greek chorus, we're there to enhance the action of what's going on on stage.

"There is one scene where I get wheeled in sitting on a piano!"

Although the orchestra and actors have been performing Amadeus since November, this will be the first time it is broadcast live to a global audience.

"It is going to be quite nerve-wracking - I don't think any of us appreciate the scale of it," said Ms Stott, who has played on the Graham Norton Show and Strictly Come Dancing.

"I think it is going to be great."

Growing up in Worcestershire, Ms Stott was inspired to begin playing a brass instrument by a teacher at school.

She went on to study at Oxford University, before taking on postgraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

As well as playing with Sinfonia, she has also performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra and the English National Ballet.

She now lives in north London.

Amadeus will be broadcast to The Forum Theatre, in Malvern, at 7pm on Thursday, February 2.
