MONEY raised by the traders of Barnards Green was this week presented to a scheme which helps elderly people in their own homes.
The traders raised £1,500 for the Friends of Community Action to support their Helping Hands initiative, in which volunteers help elderly residents with perform simple cleaning and maintenance tasks in their homes. The scheme offers friendship as well as practical help.
At this week's presentation, traders donned rubber gloves and waved dusters and household tools whilst the cheque was presented to Susie Forbes, chairman of the Friends of Community Action.
The money was raised by the traders during December, firstly at the Christmas extravaganza and then by individual shops running in-house competitions.
Jane Knowles, chair of Barnards Green Traders, said: "We are delighted with the amount we have managed to raise. It again shows that we can work together to support and put back something into the community.
"Shopping locally and supporting independent shops and businesses feeds directly back and benefits local good causes such as Community Action. Plus we all had a lot of fun."
