THE Mayor of Worcester helped spread some festive cheer by hosting a festive lunch in the Guildhall for 80 homeless and disadvantaged people.

Cllr Paul Denham worked with the YMCA, St Paul’s Hostel, Maggs Day Centre, homeless service CCP, Citizen’s Advice Bureau and Worcester Foodbank to help invite guests to the event, held on Tuesday.

He said: “At this time of year, when we are acutely aware of the homeless and disadvantaged people of Worcester – even though this is a year-round issue – it was lovely to be able to host this lunch for them at the Guildhall.

“It was a great success and so many people said to me how much they enjoyed it.

“I was particularly pleased that, for so many of them, it was their first time in the Guildhall, as one of my aims as mayor is to encourage people in who have never entered this wonderful building before.

“YMCA Catering Manager Kristen Barone did a fantastic job as chef and I want to thank Waitrose for donating the vegetables and Christmas puddings.”

Guests enjoyed a traditional Christmas lunch, with turkey and all the trimmings, paid for from the mayor’s budget.

YMCA staff helped prepare the festive lunch.
