HUNDREDS of Christmas boxes have been sent off to Romania from Upton this week.

The boxes, intended for children and families in poor areas of the eastern European nation, have been donated by well-wishers living in and around the town.

This week, the boxes, 334 in all, were collected from Upton's Baptist church by Wrexham-based charity Teams 4 U to be delivered to their recipients.

The boxes for children contain toys, hats and scarves, pens and pencils and other items, and the family boxes contain useful items such as household utensils and tea towels.

Sarah Braithwaite, one of the organisers, said: "They will be delivered to families around the town of Cihei. It make such a difference when the families receive them, because they have so little of their own."
