WALKERS raised thousands of pounds for charity as part of an annual walk.

As part of Cancer Research UK's annual walk, 100 people set out to the Malvern Hills.

Now in its 19th year, the walk is organised by the charity's Malvern fundraising group and it is expected to have raised over £10,000 once the money is counted.

Ray Worth, organiser and chair of the Malvern Fundraising Committee, said, “It has been a great day, and we really enjoying seeing both new walkers, and those that have taken part before.

"We keep photographs and cuttings from all of the walks over the years, and we take the chance to look through, and see how some families have grown.”

The results will take the lifetime total raised to over £140,000 and plans are already being put in for the 2017 event.

Groups from HSBC and Mainstay joined the walk to represent their respective businesses, and helped boost the fundraising total.

Cancer Research UK regional fundraising manager, Paul Titley, added, “The Malvern Walk is a great event, brilliantly organised by Ray and all at the Malvern group.

"The options of walking 3, 6 or 10 miles give all ages the chance to get involved.

"Cancer is a horrible disease, and 1 in 2 people in the UK will receive a cancer diagnosis at some point in their lives.

"Thanks to research, more people than ever before are surviving cancer and that research wouldn’t be possible without the fundraising efforts of the Malvern Committee and all of the walkers raising money for Cancer Research UK.

"A huge thank you to everyone involved.”

The walk took place on Saturday October 8.
