THE body of a woman has been found in the river Severn at Ironbridge.
Police were called on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 27 to Ironbridge following a report that a body had been seen in the River Severn.
An intensive search involving police officers, a police helicopter and the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service followed.
Police officers conducted a ground search along the river banks, while the police helicopter conducted an overhead search, using thermal imaging.
The fire officers assisted in the search and also launched a search boat onto the river Severn.
PCSO Mal Goddard assisted in the search along the river bank, using the numerous angling positions to search the river.
A police spokesman said: "West Mercia Police can confirm that a body of a woman was found in the Ironbridge area, near Telford, shortly after 4pm. "Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service recovered a body from the river in the Coalport area.
"The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and the death is being treated as unexplained."
