A MALVERN nursery is celebrating after receiving a gold medal at the Malvern Autumn Show.

Old Court Nurseries and the Picton Garden received a gold medal in the RHS Flower Show for a display of Michaelmas daisies.

Helen Picton, from the family-run Colwall business, said: "We were very pleased to get the gold because the nursery is celebrating 110 years this year.

"We specialise in Michaelmas daisies and we hold the national collection of them.

"We have 420 varieties.

"When the judge came round he just said it's really good.

"They loved the amount of colour that we had managed to get out at once.

"It did look very good this year.

"We were really pleased with how it all came together and were were delighted to get the gold.

"We managed to get one last year.

"To get a second one made me feel it wasn't just a fluke.

"It rewards all our hard work."

Another local business celebrating was Clive's Fruit Farm in Upton upon Severn.

The family-run farm won seven first prizes including Bramley, heaviest apple, Spartans, Russets, Conference pears, Comice pear and Concord pear.

Jane Clive said: "The week before the Autumn show we carefully select all the fruit.

"The fruits have to the same shape, size and colour, without any blemishes or disease this take a lot of time but it is really very rewarding, especially when you win seven first prizes!

"We would like to take the opportunity to say thanks for the hard work from all our staff and the continued support of the public."

She added that the farm's success was due to its attention to detail, balancing the right soil for individual orchards, re-planting, pruning and maintaining the trees all year round.
