A GROUP of electric vehicle enthusiasts from Malvern is holding its first national show in the town this weekend.

The show, organised by the Electric Automobile Association, or ElectrAA, will see Priory Park in the town playing host to a wide variety of electric vehicles.

Among manufacturers showing off their latest products are Tesla, Renault and BMW, which will be exhibiting the car that recently broke the Lands End-John O'Groats record.

Electric motorcycles and quad bikes will also be on show and individual owners will be bringing along their vehicles.

In Malvern Theatres, the foyer will have stands and displays, and there is a full programme of speakers in the Forum Theatre.

Vehicles will be on display and test drives available from 11am. The programme of talks start at 1pm.

Dan Wild of ElectrAA said: "Interest in electric vehicles is growing rapidly and will soon be reaching a tipping point.

"In previous years we never had more than 100 pre-registrations, but this year we've had 620.

"That's why we're talking about this as a national show, rather than the regional show it's been in previous years."

Celebrity electric car enthusiast Robert Llewellyn of Red Dwarf fame is the first speaker and will dispel myths about electric cars in a style sure to raise laughter.

Simon Crowfoor, managing director of Ecotricity's Electric Highway project will talk on the development of the charging infrastructure, and Kidderminster company Fleet Innovations will demonstrate Cleanpea, a device that plugs into a standard vehicle, measures driving activity, then makes a recommendation of what type of electric vehicle suits your driving patterns.

Paul Bloor will speak on intelligent highways and connected cars, Mrs Perry Poole will contend that "you don't have to be a geeky male to own an EV”, the Institute of Advanced Motorists will talk on EV driving techniques and Malvern's own Mike Schooling will update on battery development.

The full programme of talks is published on electra.org.uk. Entrance to the event is free, but entrance to the talks programme is by ticket only.
