A TEAM of more than 60 volunteers joined forces to help clean up the city streets.

McDonald’s franchisee Trevor Smith and staff from his Hylton Road and Foregate restaurants in Worcester teamed up with MP Robin Walker, as well as volunteers from Worcester Nomads Cricket Club, Worcester Bears Basketball Club, Worcester Colts Football Club, Worcester United Ladies Football Club and Hylton Road Rovers Club to clean up the area around the riverside.

They donned high-visibility jackets and went out armed with litter pickers and black bags to pick up rubbish.

The team covered both sides of the river from the Hylton Road all the way to Diglis Bridge as well as St John’s and Cripplegate Park and returned with more than 30 sacks full of litter.

The event was part of an ongoing national partnership between McDonald’s and Keep Britain Tidy to help combat litter and similar events were held up-and-down the country.

Mr Smith said: “I was really proud to see everyone come together and help tidy up the riverside.

"It’s a key priority of ours to ensure that the local area remains free of litter and an enjoyable place to live, work and visit.

"As a business we understand the important role that we play in making the area a better place.

"While we are keen to actively discourage littering, we recognise that community events like this one help make a huge impact on the local area.

"When local businesses and the community come together to tackle local issues we are able to achieve so much more and this event is a perfect example of this. I’d like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work.”

Keep Britain Tidy chief executive Allison Ogden-Newton said: "To win the war on litter everyone needs to work together, with businesses having an exciting part to play.

"McDonald’s Love Where You Live initiative, together with their day-to-day commitment to tackling the problem through their litter patrols and their ongoing support Keep Britain Tidy, is an example of how a business can make a real difference."
