POLICE discovered cannabis plants being grown inside a former pub toilet after they investigated initial reports of a break-in.

The cannabis plants were being cultivated in the gentleman's toilet at the Crown and Anchor in Hylton Road, Worcester, resulting in three arrests for the production of the class B drug.

The Worcester News reported on the presence of a police car and a forensics van yesterday (Monday) but more details are now emerging about what the police discovered inside the former pub which is closed to customers.

The plants were discovered after officers from West Mercia Police responded to reports of a burglary in progress at the pub. The four suspects in the burglary have not been arrested although investigations have led to three arrests in connection with the cannabis grow.

Superintendent Kevin Purcell said: "An investigation by West Mercia Police is underway following a report that four men had attempted to force entry to a former public house on Hylton Road, Worcester between 11.30pm on Sunday, July 24 and 12.33am on Monday, July 25. The men had left the scene prior to police arrival.

"A number of suspected cannabis plants were found at the address by attending officers and West Mercia Police Scene of Crime Officers were at the location earlier this morning.

"A 32-year-old-woman and two men aged 32 and 35 have been arrested on suspicion of producing a controlled class B drug-cannabis and are currently in police custody."

Police would appeal to any members of the public who saw the men attempting to enter the property to call police on 101 quoting incident number 17s of Monday, July 25. Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
