PLANS for a major development on the west side of Worcester have just been revealed.

Spenhill Development Ltd has applied to Malvern Hills District Council to build up to 150 new homes on land to the west of Grove Farm.

The site is bound to the north by Bromyard Road, and Grove Way to the west. To the east is land where the University of Worcester was granted planning permission of an business, science, health and enterprise 'hub".

The site, covering 14.6 acres, is now agricultural land, part of which used to be a Christmas tree plantation, and it has two existing accesses, one off the Bromyard Road/Grove Way/A4103 roundabout, and the other on its northern boundary.

The proposed primary site access is via Bromyard Road off a new junction , with a secondary or emergency site access at the east of the site to connect with the university land.

The applicant is proposing a mixture of two-to four bedroom houses, most of which will be two-storey buildings.

A noise assessment carried out by the applicant concluded that the that the west of the site is considerably noisy due to the traffic on Grove Way, and so a four-metre-high noise barrier is proposed along this site boundary.

The site is part of a larger area which has been allocated for housing in the South Worcestershire Development Plan.

Land to the north of the sites, which forms the main parts of the allocation, has previously been subject to an application for 3,950 homes, although this application was withdrawn in 2011.

A smaller application submitted by Hallam Land Management for 800 homes is currently still under consideration, and Bloor Homes is said to be preparing an application for the northernmost part of the site.

The application is for outline permission, which means that details of the layout of the houses, their designs and other matters will be left for a later application.
